The Mysterious Keys

Introduction
Once upon a day, there was a young boy, and that boy was called Jim. He came home, as normal, from school but then as he came up to the front door something was very odd.
The key didn’t fit the keyhole! He went around to the back door, and the key didn’t fit again. Then something moved in the greenhouse. “Aagghh! Flower Monsters!” And that was the start of it ...
Here is Jim’s story, in his own words:

Chapter 1
I went to Dad’s shed and got an axe. Mum shouted from the car – “What are you doing with that?”
In a quiet way, slowly I explained to Mum what had happened. Then I showed her, but of course as soon as we went to the greenhouse the Flower Monsters had gone. Mum said ”Right! Go and get your homework done.” “O.K.” I said.
But when I was in my bedroom that night, I looked out of the window and I saw something move ...

Chapter 2
I got my housecoat and my Dad’s wellies. I was off to see what was out there, not thinking that I might never return to eat a doughnut or see my last annoying sister ... I struggled in Dad’s wellies. They were up to my thighs! I had a poke around the garden and the greenhouse, and found ...nothing.
So I went back to bed.

Chapter 3
The next morning I woke up and looked out of my bedroom window. Then I thought, it’s Saturday today! YES!
But Mum said we had to go shopping. I really didn’t want to go, but what if I discovered something about the key, or the monsters ...
We went off. While we were in the Junk Shop, I saw something: another key. I had to get it – I paid a few pence and put it in my coat pocket. Then it was time to go.
When we left the shop, the shopkeeper looked at me strangely. Then I was given a sharp tug, and I was out in a matter of seconds. I was pulled into a Shoe Shop. The shopping trip was not starting well! An old lady came over to measure my feet. As I yanked my shoes off, a sharp smell hit us ... Soon I had forgotten about my old key and the monsters!

Chapter 4
It was Sunday, but I didn’t have to go to church for once. I ran to the playground with my best friend Ben – then we saw our worst nightmare: it was Big Rick and his gang. We knew they were criminals so we ran as fast as we could, but Ben – the idiot! led us to a dead end.
“Uh oh!” we said, then we charged at them like dogs. We knocked Big Rick over.
“He isn’t so big now, is he!” I said.
“Ummm – Jim, look out! Let’s run!”
We ran all the way to town, then our only choice of escape was the Junk Shop where I’d bought the key.
We explained what was happening to the shopkeeper, and we went out back (not Australia – ha, ha!).
Big Rick’s gang came into the shop. The shopkeeper said “ Not here, they ran to the Shoe Shop, yeah, they did.”

Chapter 5
We ran back to my house and hid in my Dad’s shed. We went to the back of it and found a chest just sitting there like a fat tortoise.
Then I thought of the key I got from the Junk Shop – and you know what? It fitted!
We lifted up the lid and all that was in there was ... a box! I opened it and inside there was a scroll. We read these words:
I AM COMING FOR YOU!
I was worried that the message was for me! I would be ... doomed! But probably it wasn’t, because there was a clue: a picture.

Chapter 6
The picture was a drawing of a shed. It had a secret hatch joined on the back of it, and on both the doors it said ‘No Trespassers! Keep Out!’
Wow. I was in for it. The next night I set out alone on my bike to try and find this place. Ben was too scared to come. The first place I came to was an old scrapyard. I had a poke around, and then I found a shed, and the shed had ‘No Trespassers!’ signs on the doors.
“Yes! I, Jim the Great, have found this secret shed!”
I opened the doors and inside the shed was another chest. I went up to it slowly in case it was a trick and I opened up a jack-in-a-box!

Chapter 7
Then I struck like a cobra! I shoved the key in the lock and gave it a sharp tug. I opened the lid. Inside was a box! I opened the box: inside was another box, and inside that another and another – I opened them all and finally got to the last box. As I opened the last box, the key glittered. It was coming to life!
I legged it across the scrapyard with the key flying after me!
“Ow, no, it’s going to hurt me!”
I fell to the ground and said a prayer.
“Please don’t let that thing hurt me. Please, please, please!
(Did I mention that I don’t want to be hurt or killed??!)”

Chapter 8
When I eventually got up, the key was right in front of me. I legged it back to the old, rotten shed. The sign on the door now said ‘Pit Of Doom!’
“Muahahahaha!!” a voice laughed. Could it be a Flower Monster?? So I hid in the chest. Then the whole shed was lifted onto a lorry and moved.
When I came out of the chest I was back home safe in Dad’s shed!
