Summer Serials

Group creation was the theme for the summer. Together we thought of characters, settings and other story components. The ideas were clearly divided into four genres, science fiction, fairy tale/comedy, parallel worlds, and friendship (with a magic twist).
In four groups, we co-created the stories week by week, using artwork to develop visualisation of the characters and landscapes, and to illustrate the stories. At the beginning, and each week as the stories took shape, I introduced some new elements as a challenge to the writers, and wrote parts of the stories as well using the freshly generated ideas.
Next we read and acted the stories for each other, and began to develop the work for performance. An ongoing ‘pig’ theme had emerged over the last year, and once again, pigs crept onto the pages and the stage!:

Welcome to our Summer Term Serials!
We started with brainstorming: there were tons of ideas, so I wrote the beginnings of four different stories and we wrote and illustrated these over a number of sessions.
Next, we tried some storytelling using these stories, and with a script by Alfie, we put some of the material together to make a show.
